About

The Community Memory Project began in 2020 with funding from the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The project is a way for community members in Newfane (including South Newfane, Williamsville and Brookside) and Brookline, Vermont to share  memories of the past and stories of the present day.

Interviewers are all volunteers who were trained by the Vermont Folklife Center to conduct interviews in keeping with the best practices of contemporary oral history.

The project also contains digitized versions of older cassette tapes kept in the Historical Society of Windham County’s archives, as well as digital photographs of people who have been interviewed and scanned documents related to people’s stories (maps or letters, for example).

This project is a collaboration between the Moore Free Library, the Historical Society of Windham County, Brattleboro Area Hospice, and Senior Solutions.
